The Worst Day

This day that I am telling you about has to be the worst one in my daughter’s life. She and I had been working in our front yard cleaning up after a long winter. We were pulling weeds and picking up junk and straightening up. The summer before we had experienced a flood in our area and the snow had set in before everything was cleaned up, so we had a lot of work to do. My husband had strung some clotheslines between some of the trees so we could hang rugs and things to dry out before getting rid of them and we thought we had taken them all down and put them away. Well, we missed one and it was draped around one of the trees. My daughter decided to play cowboys and Indians and “tied” herself to the tree by slipping under the looped rope. She misjudged and started to strangle herself. Luckily I heard her and rescued her in time. I called the doctor and he said as long as the skin wasn’t broken and she was talking okay it was fine. We decided to go indoors. A while later one of our neighbors and her son came to visit and the kids wanted to play outside. We told them to be careful but that they could. They went across the lane and into another neighbor’s yard to see the horse that had shown up there. (A visit from a friend.) Long story short my daughter lost her shoe under the horse, went to retrieve it, spooked the horse and he bit her shoulder. Again, another call to the doctor and I was told as long as the skin wasn’t broken to just ice it and she would probably have a bruise but would be fine. He strongly suggested she not be allowed out anymore that day! Fast forward a few more hours and I was playing the radio and the little minx climbed up on the coffee table to dance! (She was 4 and thought it would make a great stage!) Well, she fell off and cut herself just above her right eye. This time we had to take her into the emergency room to have a stitch put in. I don’t think she has ever had another day like that and I am so glad!
