It might as well have been jail!

You have to swipe to get in because security is so tight. There are not a lot of windows. All the doors are locked. Jail? No it’s a call center. It is defiantly a love hate job. You can get the nicest people on the phone. But there are the ones that are just looking to yell and scream and nothing else. I think I have been called every name in the book. I have been threatened violence, I have been propositioned. It is amazing what some people think is ok to say to someone just because they are on the phone. People do not understand how hard it is to do that job and put up with that all day and just say I’m sorry while someone is calling you names. I enjoyed the good customers and had some great times with them but I think that is not enough to make me want to go back.

Today is no Exception for the Blah

My days have been pretty lazy and pacific of late, and today was really no exception. In order to prevent myself from getting up later and later every single day and becoming totally unprepared for college life again, I’ve set a wake-by limit of ten o’clock (AM of course). But I managed to sleep right past that today by almost forty minutes, an unprecedented phenomenon. The first thing I did, besides basic toiletries and rituals, was to turn on my laptop and see to the various tasks I have set for myself online and offline there. It turns out that I have indeed received an email reply from a good friend, possibly starting a very interesting discussion — and that there are no further replies to the topic I started on TV Tropes foray about the web comic HERO. The latter occurrence is depressing, since I have unsuccessfully been trying to promote what I hold to be a great but obscure web comic these past days.

“Too Hot to Handle”

Went out on our friends boat last weekend, it was the hottest weekend here yet this summer. Thought it would be a great idea to bring sushi, husbands drink creation (all sugary stuff!) and water. Well after about an hour of running around starving we made it to the boat and 20 minutes in to the trip ate about 5 pounds of sushi, yum! Then spent 3 hours in the hot water drink the too sweet drink (I only drink beer liquor let alone sweet stuff not good for me!) well have you ever almost fall over while standing in water? I have! Not fun, hit my toe on the prop, barely made it to short to throw up the sushi, could hardly make it back to the boat, crawled on the boat threw up in the “portal-potty” they call a bathroom, curdled up in a ball and cried “oh my belly.” That is one hard to handle weekend adventure! But made it safely to the truck heading home; and upon arrive at the house drank what felt like 52 oz of water in five minutes, I could not have been more thirsty. The good news is there were no ugly side effects of the heat, sushi and vodka!

Innocence of a child

I cannot imagine how my life would have been if my two angels were not in my life. I have two kids a girl aged 5years and a boy aged 4years. I am really blessed with both of them. They play with each other and at the same time fight like cats and dogs. It is amazing to see how well they take care of each other and me. For instance, just the other day we were at a party and both of them were sleepy, my younger one fell asleep and my older one was also sleepy. I was just saying my goodbyes when I heard my older one tell the hostess “aunty, I’m also sleepy, but if I also sleep; how will Mama carry both us home?” This was said in all innocence. I was really touched. I try to reason with my children, so they will also try to do the same when put in situations and eventually I feel proud of them when they think of others before them.

The Red Green Show

Graham Greene
Image via Wikipedia

The Red Green Show is from Canada and it features a guy named Red Green and all his friends in the Possum Lodge. They are always doing amazingly crazy things such as cutting cars in half and duct taping the halves together or turning an old car into a washing machine. They also have a silly word game where someone tries to get someone else to say a word and usually some sort of ongoing story about the antics of the guys in the lodge. One time they took a cordless drill and put a mixer beater in it, which actually works because I tried it. There are some well-known actors on the Red Green Show such as Archie Campbell of Hee Haw fame and the wonderful Native American actor, Graham Greene. Greene plays a guy who blows things up for a living. The characters are all zany in some way or another. There is an animal control officer who is petrified of animals, a guy who is on probation for who knows what, and Harold who is simply indescribable. Rarely do women appear on the Red Green Show–it’s all about the foibles of men who like to do things with cars and tools. The show is no longer in production but you can find clips of it on Youtube and some PBS stations continue to show reruns of it.

My best basics style

I will start with the most important closing, because it wraps the most important part of the body: my shorts. Right, it is horizontally striped, because vertically striped wear the fat people to look a bit smarter, but in this case we need the opposite. The color doesn’t matters, but there are two main differences between striped shorts: dark stripes are very sexy, colored stripes are funny. Today I am funny. It is a green striped retro short. Next important thing are the socks. I wear always grey socks. My feet are always a bit smelly and so it is good, if they don’t stand out by the color. Under my brown polo shirt I wear a white muscle shirt. If it gets too hot, I can easily get rid of the polo shirt without being naked. For the same reason I wear a brown waistcoat with a zipper. You can very good and fast hold the right temperature. As everybody I wear jeans. My jeans are from the children’s store. They are much cheaper than their equivalents in the men’s stores. And now the last part: The shoes. I wear brown sport shoes that are not too elegant and not too sporty. I can go with them everywhere I want to. I never buy famous labels because only farmers and ghetto gangsters by such shoes. The unknown ones are much cooler and cheaper.

Greatness

My past week has been quite an interesting one, certainly a notable one. It started off with having my offer accepted on a house, so suddenly I have the real possibility of becoming a first time buyer – that is both an exciting and terrifying prospect usually, but even more so in the current economic climate. This has triggered off a chain of phone calls, filling in forms, etc , so it has also been a busy week – but it a good way. I have been waiting for this time to come for years as I have saved up a deposit, so I guess I also feel very proud. I’m trying to keep my excitement and thoughts about buying new furniture under control under we have the keys in our hands, though! The credit crunch was horrible to us last year, so hopefully things will be better for us from now on.

Chicken roast – the best family dinner ever!

Moroccan Chicken with Apricot-and-Olive Relish

Since my sister works in a city away from home, my parents look forward to her coming home once every sixty days. Whenever she visits, my mother cooks all her favorite dishes and we have a nice family dinner laughing and pulling each other’s legs. This is always the best time to have a little family fun and a large roasted chicken is always on the menu. As usual, last night too we had a large whole chicken roast with fried potatoes. It was such a treat. My mom roasted the chicken after stuffing it with her special stuffing mix and my dad cuts it open for us with his fancy collection of knives and choppers. It is almost like a standard ceremony that all of us look forward to having every time she visits. Last night we poured a little alcohol on the chicken and then set it on fire. As the flames rose a little, my dad raised a toast to all three of us, daddy’s angels. Was such a wonderful, memorable evening and I thank God for blessing me with such a beautiful family.

Adventures at Ikea

Last weekend a friend and I decided to make the trip to the Ikea in our state. I really enjoy the store and he’d never been there before. He found a couple items on the website that he wanted to check out. We found a gorgeous coffee table, it was a light wood with several cubbyholes underneath that you could store boxes or baskets in. He also found a stepstool that he needed. Both items were in the self serve section warehouse part of the store. After browsing through for almost two hours, we headed to the warehouse to get the two items. The stepstool was nowhere to be found, it wasn’t where it was supposed to be. After searching nearby aisles, we gave up. Strikeout number two came when the coffee table’s box was too big to fit in my two door car. Unfortunately my seats don’t fold down. I ended up purchasing 5 chair pads, which when I got home, realized were too big for our chairs. This weekend, we’re planning on a return trip with his car to get the table and hopefully find the stepstool and I’ll return the chair pads. We’re hoping to have better luck with this visit!

Cars a “poppin”

Image via Wikipedia

My favorite job ever was when I worked for a Japanese live auto auction. It was very unique in that dealerships throughout the country had a setup much like a video game with a joystick and at Auction time the sale would be televised live to their computer. The dealership would bid with the joysticks and the highest bid bought the car. There was a live auctioneer and it got really crazy with bells ringing and people in the studio shouting and betting on who would get the car. When the auction was successful, the entire office would go out for dinner and drinks until wee hours of the morning. I actually ran the auction, and it was very much like being in the entertainment industry. Sitting in the control room, watching all the action was great fun. Unfortunately with the increased sophistication of the internet, the live auction did not survive, but I have never had a job before or after that was as much fun as that one.
