Purple Is My Favorite “Color”
There aren’t a whole lot of movies that actually move me. At the end of “Titanic”, I was just glad it was over. I didn’t think the “Pretty Woman” was all that good-looking. But “The Color Purple” made me sees life in a whole new way. The performances by brilliant actors such as Whoopi Goldberg, Danny Glover, and Oprah Winfrey were surprising. The script stayed true to the book, and the musical score is so memorable that I can still recall and sing parts of it 10 years after last seeing the movie. The whole production was well-directed, and that still isn’t what makes the movie so great. It’s the inspiration you feel from the determination and faith of the main character. It’s the outrage you feel at the situation of Oprah’s character. It’s the realization that this script depicts life in that time period pretty accurately. It’s what makes this movie life-changing good.
