Cars a “poppin”

My favorite job ever was when I worked for a Japanese live auto auction. It was very unique in that dealerships throughout the country had a setup much like a video game with a joystick and at Auction time the sale would be televised live to their computer. The dealership would bid with the joysticks and the highest bid bought the car. There was a live auctioneer and it got really crazy with bells ringing and people in the studio shouting and betting on who would get the car. When the auction was successful, the entire office would go out for dinner and drinks until wee hours of the morning. I actually ran the auction, and it was very much like being in the entertainment industry. Sitting in the control room, watching all the action was great fun. Unfortunately with the increased sophistication of the internet, the live auction did not survive, but I have never had a job before or after that was as much fun as that one.
